#1 for January 1, 2021: newly elected Michigan House members are sworn in today. Find your Michigan state representative and resolve to get to know her/him.
#2 for January 2, 2021: keep informed of animal issues. For starters, review what’s happened in the past year with our annual Year In Review.
#3 for January 3, 2021: at noon today, all US Representatives will be sworn in. Resolve to find out who yours is; get to know them (and their staff); find our what committees they are on; ask them to support animal-friendly legislation and to co-sponsor bills; and (bonus point) encourage them to join the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus. #4 for January 4, 2021: tune in to Lunch + Legislation the 1st Monday of each month in 2021. You’ll get timely, concise (15 minutes max!) information about the MI Legislature and US Congress and actions you can take to up your advocacy for animals. Start with today’s discussion, “What’s Up With the New Legislative Sessions?”
#5 for January 5, 2021: Follow our Legislative Tracker™ to keep up with both the MI Legislature and Congress. An important bill was introduced in Congress yesterday. Take a look at our 1st Tracker of the session, and read Rep. Mike Quigley’s press release. He and MI Rep. Fred Upton are re-introducing the Preventing Future Pandemics Act, H.R. 150.
#6 for January 7, 2021: participate in our Animal Friendly Attorneys™ certification program. Attorneys: we’ve made it easy to apply using the online form. Read more about the program and apply online. Others: you can nominate an attorney for the program.
#7 for January 8: wrapping up a week’s worth of resolutions, our last one is to become a member of AFA! Attorneys, we need you to join! Law Student and Advocate members, the dues waiver is extended into 2021.
