Today we welcomed Logan and learned about a great resource for legislators — and advoates. The NCEL “empower[s] a nonpartisan network of state legislative champions. Created by and for state legislators, NCEL serves as a resource to lawmakers working to protect, conserve, and improve the natural and human environment.”

Spend some time on NCEL’s website, which features an astounding 36 issue areas including everything from Carnivores and Coexistence, to PFAS, to Biodiversity and more.
NCEL is a nationwide network of over 1,300 state legislators who are working on environmental issues across all 50 states and several territories…NCEL serves as remote environmental staff for legislators in the network. We keep legislators informed of environmental policy and issues. We share resources with them, and fact sheets and briefing books. We respond to requests for research.

What you can do …
NCEL is bi-partisan and does not advocate for particular policies, nor does it actively recruit new members.
However, if your legislator is interested in environmental issues, or has sponsored/co-sponsored a bill, contact her/him and let them know about NCEL’s resources.
As the Wildlife and Habitat Coordinator, Logan has particular expertise in Wildlife Crossings. Federal dollars are available to the states, and will be for approximately three more years. Logan said it’s not too late and that few midwestern states have taken advantage of the program.
